    WINDBER MEDICAL CENTER

Full-Time Positions: General  

PA-C (March 14, 2008) 

Windber Medical Center is seeking a PA-C for the Emergency Department.  This position is responsible for providing comprehensive health care to patients in collaboration with the physician including medical evaluation, treatment, counseling & referrals.  The ideal candidate must be a graduate of an accredited program for Physician Assistant with NCCPA certification.  3-5 Years experience as a PA-C in Family Practice Medicine is preferred. 



Part Time Positions: General
 

PHARMACIST (November 27, 2007)

This position interprets, prepares and verifies all patient medication orders and oversees their preparation.  As such, the staff pharmacist supervises the preparation of and/or prepares unit dose medications, out-patient prescriptions and IV mixtures. Monitors procedures for control and distribution of controlled substances.  Reviews patient records for correct pharmacotherapy.  Orders necessary supplies and/or drugs as needed.  Four-year Bachelor’s degree and Valid Pennsylvania Pharmacist license required.  One-two years related experience.

INPATIENT CODER (November 16, 2007)

Successful candidate should possess prior experience as inpatient coder in acute care hospital.  Experience with ICD-9-CM, procedure coding, and DRG validation.  Knowledge of MS-DRGS and 3rd Party Payor guidelines is preferred.  Excellent time management and organizational skills are required.  Minimum 2 years experience with inpatient hospital medical records coding preferred.


Casual Positions: General 

CERTIFIED SURGICAL TECHNOLOGIST (May 1, 2008) This position has the responsibility of meeting the needs of surgical patients effectively and efficiently by assisting in patient care while in the surgical suite.  Patient care includes age and case specific needs of all elective and emergency surgeries while performing routine and delegated duties.  This position also includes performing the sterilization process of instrumentation and maintaining adequate supplies as needed.  One year certification from college or technical school required.  CPR preferred at time of hire, required within 6 months of hire date.  Three to six months related experience and/or training preferred.  



Full-Time Positions: Nursing

RN - OB/GYN (May 1, 2008)

This position assumes the responsibility of meeting patient care needs effectively and efficiently by providing complete nursing care to all assigned patients.  This position possesses adequate knowledge of these specialty areas to effectively empower patients and their families with adequate teaching experience to meet their unique and ongoing home care needs.  Provides clinical oversight to other staff members regarding patient care.  Graduate from an approved school of nursing and a Valid Pennsylvania Registered Nurse license required.  CPR and NALS preferred at time of hire, required within 6 months or hire date.  PALS and ACLS preferred.  Six months to one year related experience and/or training preferred.

RN – HOME HEALTH (April 25, 2008)

Shifts are 8a-4p 7 days/week plus on-call.  This position is responsible for providing total patient care for each HH patient that is based on the individual patient and medical care plan with appropriate age-specific assessments, interventions, evaluation & care implementation.  This position is also responsible for providing patient & family education as the foundation of nursing care.  Valid PA RN & driver’s license, CPR & 1 yr exp and/or training in a nursing field required. 

HOME CARE COORDINATOR – HOSPICE (May 7, 2008)

This position is responsible for assisting with the coordination of daily patient care to assure continuity of care through coordination of authorizations with providers and/or payors.  This position is also responsible for providing direction and supervision to other staff members regarding patient care and government regulations.  This position is responsible for monitoring the use of Agency resources to ensure the delivery of high quality care in a cost effective and efficient manner by recognizing and adhering to reimbursement guidelines.  Assist with coordinating performance improvement projects for Home Health/Hospice, utilization review, and assisting with staffing education programs.  Associate’s degree or equivalent from a two-year college or diploma school of nursing.  Valid Pennsylvania Registered Nurse license.  Valid drivers’ license.  Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation certification.  Two years year related experience and/or training in home health and med-surg nursing.


Part-Time Positions: Nursing

LPN  (April 25, 2008)

This position is responsible for meeting patient needs effectively and efficiently by applying complete nursing care to assigned patients, providing patient care through life stages of all ages in medical, surgical and telemetry areas of nursing and providing clinical oversight to other staff members regarding patient care.  One year certification from a college or technical school in a nursing field.  Valid Pennsylvania Practical Nurse license.  CPR certification required.  Three to six months related experience and/or training.

RN – HOME HEALTH (April 16, 2008)

RN - WING III (December 27, 2007)

This position must assume responsibility of meeting patient needs effectively and efficiently by applying complete nursing care to assigned patients.  Care must be provided through all life stages of ages in medical, surgical, and telemetry areas of nursing.  This position also provides direction and oversight to other staff members regarding patient care.  Valid PA RN license required.  CPR / BLS required.  ACLS and PALS certifications preferred.  One year related experience is preferred.


Casual Positions: Nursing

LPN – AMBULATORY SURGERY (May 1, 2008) This position is responsible for meeting all patient needs effectively and efficiently by applying complete nursing care through life stages of age to provide the necessary monitoring of patients recovering from the recent administration of anesthesia in the Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) under the direction of a Registered Nurse.  One year certification from a college or technical school in a nursing field.  Valid Pennsylvania Practical Nurse license required.  Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation certification required.  IV therapy course and Dysrythmia course required.  Three to six months related experience and/or training preferred.

RN – CCU (December 7, 2007)

This position is responsible for providing intensive up-to-date treatment modalities for the critically ill or critically injured patient in the Critical Care Unit (CCU).  This position is also responsible to administer life saving measures within moments notice under direct medical supervision.  Minimum Diploma of Nursing required.  Valid Pennsylvania Registered Nurse license required.  Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation certification, BLS, Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Pediatric Advanced Life Support certifications and Dysrhythmia and CCU Class preferred at time of hire, required within 6 months of hire date or enrolled in the next available course.  Six months to one year related experience and/or training required.

WINDBER RESEARCH INSTITUTE

Translational Cancer Research (2 positions) (January 3, 2007)

The Windber Research Institute (WRI) invites scientists with demonstrated excellence in cancer research and a strong interest in translating these discoveries into pre-clinical research and potential therapies to apply for the position of Staff Scientist or Senior Staff Scientist in cancer genomics. Areas of particular interest include: genome instability in cancer, genetics of tumor p
rogression, metastatic potential, and tumor microenvironment. Scientists with an interest in cancer stem cell biology, markers for early detection of cancer, molecular profiling of tumors, and chromatin remodeling and epigenetics also would be considered favorably. Researchers using systems biology approaches in their research are especially encouraged to apply, as are individuals with a focus on diseases related to women’s health, e.g. breast and ovarian cancers.

Candidates must have a Ph. D., M.D., or equivalent degree, comprehensive, advanced training, and a record of accomplishment in one of the targeted areas. Successful applicants will join a highly interactive and multidisciplinary research environment and are expected to take advantage of interactions with a highly collegial group of scientists.

WRI occupies a modern 36,000 square foot facility in Windber, Pennsylvania, and offers fully staffed, state-of-the-art core facilities in genomics, proteomics, biomedical informatics, microarray, flow cytometry, and histology. WRI also has a premier tissue banking facility with over 23,000 biological samples related to breast cancer representing the most highly annotated and quality controlled collection that currently exists and which are available to staff researchers.

At WRI we believe that we can best improve patient care and the quality of life for patients and their families by rapidly translating molecular and clinical research into new standards of medical care.
