Psychotherapy is a process by which a trained professional assists individuals, couples, or groups to address and resolve problems, which are causing them emotional distress or impairing their ability to function effectively. For many people, psychotherapy provides a way of getting “unstuck,” so that they can move forward with their lives.
Often, people can gain a greater understanding of their problems by putting them into words with the assistance of a trained professional. The reflections offered by the professional help the person to see things from different perspectives and to generate alternative solutions. The psychotherapist can also provide training in specific techniques and strategies for change.
Life can be difficult at times for just about everyone, so anyone could be an appropriate candidate for psychotherapy. Reasons for seeking counseling could include life stress, depression, marital or family conflicts, anxiety, grief, alcohol or drug issues, coping with a medical illness, or simply difficulties adjusting to life changes. Anyone feeling emotionally distressed or having difficulty performing ordinary activities is an appropriate candidate for psychotherapy.
WMC offers services for young adults, adults, and seniors. Services are not available for children.
Psychotherapy must be provided by a trained professional. Windber Medical Center offers the services of a Licensed Psychologist trained in Clinical Psychology with a specialization in Behavioral Medicine.
Most major insurances will cover all or part of the cost for psychotherapy when provided by a licensed professional. Each insurance plan has its own requirements, deductibles, and co-payments. It is usually best to check in advance with your carrier to be sure about payment.
