LAP-BAND Surgery
A safer, less invasive surgery for obesity
Obesity is considered the second largest cause of
preventable death after smoking.
Obesity is a life-threatening disease that
afflicts over a quarter of the population in the United States. 97
million Americans are already classified as being overweight and at
risk of becoming obese.
Obesity is a
major risk factor for serious medical conditions such as:
- Type-2 Diabetes
- Heart disease
- Sleep apnea
- Osteoarthritis
|
- Hypertension
- Stroke
- Cancer
- Joint problems

What is the LAP-BAND? How can it help achieve my
weight loss goals?
A silicone band is placed around the upper part of
the stomach and filled with saline to create a new, smaller stomach
pouch. The band regulates the flow of food from the upper to the
lower part of the stomach, working like an hour glass to create an
early sense of fullness and producing weight loss by restricting the
amount of food consumed. The small portion size will stay in the
stomach pouch for a longer period of time-resulting in decreased
calories and weight loss.

What are the advantages of the LAP-BAND?
-
It is the least invasive surgical
procedure, involving no cutting or stapling of stomach
or gastrointestinal re-routing to bypass normal
digestion in this procedure.
-
It has fewer risks and side effects.
-
It is an overnight procedure with
patients usually returning to work within 1 -2 weeks.
-
LAP-BAND surgery is adjustable to meet
individual needs.
-
The system can be adjusted to meet the
nutritional needs of the pregnant patient during the
prenatal period.
-
The LAP-BAND system is the only
adjustable and reversible obesity surgery available in
the US.
